Isle of Iona
The Isle of Iona is best known for its
beautiful Abbey and its connection with St.Columba. It is believed to be the first
Christian site in Scotland. Iona is nearly 3 miles long and only 1.5 miles wide. It
is now maintained by the National Trust for Scotland, and attracts pilgrims and
many thousands of tourists each year to the Abbey and beautiful white sandy
beaches. Iona is also a haven for wildlife - both fauna and flora with its
peace and tranquillity lending itself as an ideal sanctuary.
